Gym grand opening checklist.

The honest grand-opening playbook. Soft open first; grand open second; and then the 90 days that actually determine whether the gym makes it. T-30 day, T-14, T-7, day-of, and post-open punch lists — built for the first-time owner doing this for the first time.

The honest framing

Grand opening is the starting line, not the finish line

Most operators treat grand opening as the destination. It's not — it's the start of the 6-12 month working-capital survival window. The opening event matters; how you operate the next 90 days matters more.

This checklist is sequenced to handle the opening well (so members start with a great experience) and to set up the post-open operating rhythm that determines whether the gym ramps to breakeven.

The critical first month

The metrics that matter daily for the first 30 days post-open:

The first 30 days predict the first year. A member's first 30 days at a gym predict their 12-month retention more than anything that follows. Over-invest in onboarding now; you'll be paid back in lower churn for the life of the membership.
