Claude Team vs Claude Enterprise.

Claude Team works for most companies under 200 employees. Claude Enterprise becomes necessary when SSO, audit logs, or compliance requirements would otherwise block adoption. Here's the decision framework — and why most companies that "feel like" they need Enterprise actually don't.

The framing

What each tool is actually built for

Claude Team is $30/seat/month (annual billing, 5-seat minimum). It includes shared Projects, central billing, admin controls, and standard usage limits — enough for most B2B teams under 200 employees.

Claude Enterprise is custom-priced (typically $60–$100+/seat/month with annual commits). It adds the things larger orgs require to deploy at scale: SSO/SCIM, audit logs, expanded context windows (up to 500K tokens), dedicated account management, and stronger data residency controls.

The wrong reason to choose Enterprise: "we're a real company, we should have the enterprise plan." The right reason: a specific feature that's blocking your adoption.

Use cases

Which one for which job

Claude Team is the right answer when:

— Your team is under ~200 people
— You don't have hard SSO/SCIM requirements yet
— You're early in your AI deployment and don't know exactly what you'll need
— You want to keep procurement simple and ship fast
— Cost-per-seat matters more than enterprise feature parity

Claude Enterprise is the right answer when:

— Your security team has formally required SSO/SCIM for new SaaS
— You're in a regulated industry (healthcare, finance, legal) and need audit logs
— You're processing documents longer than ~150K words (extended context)
— You have 200+ users to deploy and Team plan's admin features can't handle the scale
— You need a custom DPA or specific data residency

Stay on Pro (skip Team) when:

— You're 1–4 people and don't need shared Projects yet
— You're still in early experimentation phase

FAQ

Common questions

How much does Claude Enterprise actually cost?

Anthropic doesn't publish Enterprise pricing. Realistic floors based on what we see in actual contracts: $60–$100/seat/month for typical mid-market deals, higher for very small deployments (under 25 seats), lower for very large ones (1000+ seats) with annual commitments.

Can I upgrade from Team to Enterprise mid-contract?

Yes — Anthropic supports migration from Team to Enterprise. Most companies do this 6–12 months after starting on Team, when they've outgrown the Team plan's features.

Do I need Enterprise for HIPAA or compliance work?

For HIPAA specifically, Enterprise is required (Team doesn't support BAAs). For SOC2 alone, Team is usually fine since Anthropic itself is SOC2-compliant. Check with your security team.

What about the extended context window?

Claude's standard context is 200K tokens — roughly 150K words. Enterprise can extend to 500K tokens. This matters if you're routinely working with documents longer than ~150K words (long legal contracts, codebases, multi-document research). For most business workflows, the standard context is sufficient.

Should I get Enterprise just for the dedicated support?

Probably not, unless you're deploying to 100+ users. For smaller deployments, standard support is responsive and most issues get resolved quickly.
